Dr. A. Nickie Baird is a Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his DVM from Auburn University (1984), MS from Texas A&M University, and BS from North Carolina State University.

Dr. Baird specializes in Food Animal Surgery and Large Animal Surgery, with a focus on integrating clinical practice into veterinary education. Over his 20-year faculty career at Purdue University, he contributed extensively to clinical service, teaching, and scholarly productivity in food and fiber animal surgery.
As a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), he has delivered 15 scientific lectures and 49 continuing education (CE) presentations. He has published 12 peer-reviewed CE articles and contributed to 19 book chapters, reflecting his commitment to advancing veterinary surgical knowledge.
At Purdue, he mentored 42 graduate students, residents, and interns, serving as primary advisor for five and committee member for multiple programs. His teaching excellence was recognized by students through keynote speaking roles at white coat ceremonies in 2020 and 2021.
Dr. Baird has held key administrative roles, including chief of staff at Purdue University (2019-20) and interim management team member. His leadership spans hospital operations, academic governance, and specialty services across institutions like Auburn, Purdue, and the University of Pennsylvania.
