معرفی
A. Iván Hernández is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms regulating synaptic plasticity and their alterations in neurodegenerative disorders and drug addiction.
- Universidad Austral de Chile: Licenciate in Biochemistry with distinction (1992)
- SUNY Downstate: PhD in Philosophy (2003)
Dr. Hernández’s work explores the role of PARP-1 in long-term memory, Alzheimer’s disease, and epigenetic regulation. His studies in Aplysia Californica and Drosophila highlight PARP-1’s involvement in chromatin remodeling and memory persistence. Recent publications investigate cerebrovascular disease’s impact on tau pathology and nucleolar PARP-1’s role in cognitive decline.
- Research Day Travel Fellowship Award (2001)
- Ruth L. Kirchstein National Research Service Award (T32) (2003–2004)
- Ruth L. Kirchstein National Research Service Award (T32) (2005–2006)
He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience (1998–Present) and the New York Academy of Science (2003–Present). His lab collaborates with researchers like Natalia Kim and has contributed to understanding synaptic plasticity and neurodegenerative disorders.
