A. Iván Hernández

A. Iván Hernández is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms regulating synaptic plasticity and their alterations in neurodegenerative disorders and drug addiction.

Dr. Hernández’s work explores the role of PARP-1 in long-term memory, Alzheimer’s disease, and epigenetic regulation. His studies in Aplysia Californica and Drosophila highlight PARP-1’s involvement in chromatin remodeling and memory persistence. Recent publications investigate cerebrovascular disease’s impact on tau pathology and nucleolar PARP-1’s role in cognitive decline.
