A. David Lewis is an Associate Professor of English and Health Humanities at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS University) in the School of Arts and Sciences. His office is located in Matricaria 4005D, Boston, and he can be reached at adavid.lewis@mcphs.edu.
Dr. Lewis earned his B.A. from Brandeis University and his M.A. from Georgetown University. His academic journey has led him to develop a unique interdisciplinary focus that bridges literary studies with religious and medical humanities.
Dr. Lewis's research explores the intersection of religion, comics, and health humanities, with particular attention to how graphic narratives represent death, illness, pandemics, and mental health. His work examines religious symbolism in superhero comics, digital representations of mortality, and cultural responses to health crises through the lens of comic books and graphic novels. He has made significant contributions to the emerging field of graphic medicine, analyzing how visual storytelling can illuminate complex health experiences and medical ethics.
Dr. Lewis maintains active membership in key professional organizations including the American Academy of Religion and Modern Language Association. His additional affiliations with the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Graphic Medicine International Collective, Friends of Robbins Library, and Health Humanities Consortium reflect his commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship that connects literary analysis with healthcare perspectives and religious studies.
