Jon Braddy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication & Philosophy at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2004), an MA in Organizational Communication from Western Kentucky University (1998), and a BA in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago (1995). His research focuses on psycho-analytic and queer theory, particularly through the lens of French philosophers like Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Lacan. He has produced documentaries such as Voces Boricuas (2020), Puerto Ricans Ascending (2019), and Liberation: One Generation After Apartheid (2018), often exploring marginalized communities and social change. His academic work bridges film studies and communication theory, analyzing topics like eroticism in classical texts and queer subcultures. Braddy has been actively involved in interdisciplinary projects, including co-editing Sublimation of Sexuality: Exploring the Boundaries of the Erotic (2016) and presenting at conferences like the Southern States Communication Association and the Rhetoric Society of America. His teaching portfolio includes courses on queer theory, rhetorical criticism, and intercultural communication. He has secured over $100,000 in grants for documentary projects and pedagogical initiatives, including the Voces Boricuas Communities in Transition Grant ($36,000) and multiple Undergraduate Studies and Scholarship Awards.
