Sarah Kozinn is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Theater & Performance Studies at Occidental College, appointed since 2013. She holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University, and completed a post-doctorate fellowship at Occidental College.
Her research focuses on the intersection of theater/performance studies with law, media, and LGBTQ+ narratives. Notable works include her book Justice Performed: Courtroom TV Shows and the Theaters of Popular Law (2015) and her play Homosexual Conduct (2020), which explores legal and social themes. Recent performances include roles in Shout! (2021) and the Amazon series Undone.
Her articles analyze experimental theater methods, media representations of legal processes, and community-based performance projects. Awards include the Graves Award in the Humanities (2020) and the Brooks McNamara Memorial Award for her doctoral work.
Teaching focuses on acting, performance literature, and directing, with professional experience spanning film, theater, and television. She previously taught at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and the New York Film Academy.
