Dr. Anna Campanile is a Research Fellow in the Department of Romance Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, specializing in Italian and comparative literature. Her academic career began with studies in Modern Philology at the Istituto Universitario Orientale (Naples) and Goethe University Frankfurt, culminating in a PhD from the University of Pavia (1996). She has held research positions at institutions including the Free University of Berlin, the University of Cologne, and has coordinated international academic programs through the Erasmus+ initiative with universities in Bologna, Catania, Pisa, and others. Her research focuses on transcultural Italian literature, cultural memory, Jewish-Italian literary traditions, and multilingualism in literature. She teaches courses in Italian language practice, cultural studies, and literary analysis, emphasizing transnational perspectives. As a media coordinator, she promotes intercultural educational practices and oversees language proficiency certification programs. Her scholarly contributions include comparative studies of minority literatures from South Tyrol and Ticino, analyses of memory in post-war poetry, and investigations into cannibalism as a metaphor in post-war theater. She has organized international conferences, published widely in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at venues ranging from the University of Florida to the German Studies Association conferences in Houston and Washington D.C. Her professional roles extend to academic advising, curriculum development in Italian studies, and the administration of short-term study grants for language immersion programs. She maintains active collaborations with Italian cultural institutions including the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Frankfurt.
