Assistant Professor
Catherine Longboat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at the Faculty of Education, Brock University. She is of Ojibwa (Mississauga of the New Credit) and Mohawk (Six Nations of the Grand River) heritage and is deeply committed to advancing Indigenous knowledge systems within higher education. Her research focuses on: Indigenizing the university Decolonization in education Creating ethical space for dialogue and learning Indigenous teaching and learning methodologies Narrative and ethnographic research Her recent creative scholarly works include a research-based play and video productions that explore intercultural collaboration and storytelling as forms of knowledge. These works reflect a commitment to transformative, relational, and community-engaged research. Dr. Longboat is actively involved in institutional leadership, serving on the Senate, the Two Row Wampum – Dish with One Spoon Committee, the Aboriginal Education Committee, and the Teaching and Learning Policy Committee. She is based at the Tecumseh Centre for Research and Education, where she contributes to Indigenous-centered research and pedagogy. She teaches undergraduate courses such as: INDG 2F80: Introduction to Indigenous Education in Canada INDIG 1F90: Traditional Indigenous Family INDG 1F90: Introduction to Indigenous Studies INDG 2F14: Decolonizing Aboriginal Women’s Identities through Education INDG 2P90: Pre-Confederation Indigenous History Her work is supported by research and product funding, and she continues to promote allyship and ethical engagement in academic spaces.
