Research Professor
Greg Latta is an Associate Research Professor of Forest Economics and Director of the Policy Analysis Group at the University of Idaho's College of Natural Resources. His research focuses on forest economics, climate policy modeling, and sustainable resource management. He holds a Ph.D. in Forest and Resource Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (2013), an M.S. in Forest Resources from Oregon State University (2000), and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara (1992). His research interests include forest products markets, forest-climate policy interactions, and growth/yield modeling. Notable projects involve analyzing bioenergy sustainability, carbon sequestration potential under climate scenarios, and policy impacts on forest management. He leads interdisciplinary studies on wildfire risk mitigation, biomass utilization, and land-use policy. Recent work emphasizes the intersection of climate mitigation strategies and forest sector adaptation. His articles explore topics like biofuel production feasibility, carbon credit frameworks, and socioeconomic drivers of forest utilization. He collaborates with international organizations to address global challenges like sustainable aviation fuel development and tropical charcoal consumption patterns. Latta directs the Policy Analysis Group, which bridges academic research with practical policy solutions for natural resource management. His expertise is sought for assessments of U.S. forest carbon dynamics, bioenergy markets, and climate policy design.
