Arnaud Czaja is a Professor of Physical Oceanography at Imperial College London's Department of Physics within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. His affiliations include the Grantham Institute, Marine and Coastal Environments, Space Lab, and the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group. His research focuses on large-scale ocean-atmosphere interactions, particularly examining the Gulf Stream's influence on mid-latitude weather and climate, air-sea coupling mechanisms, and climate predictability. Key research interests include ocean-atmosphere interactions, climate dynamics, and mesoscale ocean processes. His recent work explores ensemble modeling for sub-seasonal climate prediction, Gulf Stream impacts on atmospheric blocking and storm tracks, and the role of western boundary currents in modulating weather extremes. His publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to understanding climate variability, with studies on ocean heat storage, stratosphere-troposphere coupling, and the development of novel indices for ocean front dynamics. Czaja's work bridges observational analysis and high-resolution numerical modeling, emphasizing the importance of resolving oceanic fine-scale features for accurate climate simulations.
