Dr. Steven Nahmias is a Professor in the Information Systems & Analytics department at Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business. He holds degrees from Queens College, Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Northwestern University. His expertise lies in stochastic modeling and inventory systems, particularly perishable inventory management. He has authored/co-authored over 50 technical papers and the influential textbook 'Production and Operations Analysis,' now in its seventh edition, used globally in business and engineering programs. His roles include Department Chair (1987–1991) and Director of the Competitive Manufacturing Institute (1991–1997). He has served on faculties at Stanford, Georgia Tech, and the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Nahmias has been recognized with the University Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship (1998), and named a Distinguished Fellow by INFORMS (2010, 2014). His consulting work spans legal proceedings, inventory optimization for corporations like Shaklee and Tropicana, and keynote speaking at events such as the 2015 Amazon Research Scientist Conference. His research focuses on perishable inventory models, supply chain contracts, and stochastic processes, with applications in healthcare (e.g., blood bank management) and manufacturing. His academic contributions include editorial roles for journals like Management Science and Operations Research , and pioneering work in perishable inventory theory. His textbook has been translated into Spanish, Hebrew, and Chinese, reflecting its global impact. Recent work emphasizes dynamic inventory control strategies under uncertainty, with applications to perishable goods and supply chain efficiency.
