About
Akhilesh Pandey, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and Pharmacology at Mayo Clinic, leading the Systems Biology and Translational Medicine Laboratory and the Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory's mass spectrometry efforts. As Director of the Proteomics Core, he integrates multi-omics technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, genomics) to address biomedical challenges. His research focuses on cancer mechanisms (e.g., multiple myeloma), congenital disorders of glycosylation, and precision medicine through biomarker discovery and single-cell proteomics.
Education: MD from Armed Forces Medical College, PhD in Molecular Biology from University of Michigan, postdoctoral training at MIT/Whitehead Institute and University of Michigan. Clinical residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Research Interests: Multi-omics technologies for disease diagnosis, glycobiology biomarkers, single-cell proteomics, and translational applications of proteomics. His lab pioneered the human proteome map (Nature, 2014).
Publications & Impact: Over 500 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing biomarker discovery and therapeutic targets. Recent work includes multi-analyte cancer signatures and venetoclax resistance mechanisms.
Awards: Multiple international honors including HUPO's Proteomic Sciences Award and India's Margdarshi Award. He founded the Institute of Bioinformatics in India (2002).
Labs & Teams: Systems Biology Lab and Proteomics Core at Mayo Clinic. Collaborates on projects like the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical Proteomics (NCI-funded).
