Kalyanakrishnan Sivaramakrishnan holds dual roles as the Dinakar Singh Professor of Anthropology and Professor in the School of the Environment at Yale University. He serves as Co-Director of the Program in Agrarian Studies and Joint Coordinator of the Combined PhD Program in Anthropology and School of the Environment. His research focuses on environmental history, political ecology, and urban environments in India, with particular attention to legal frameworks and human-animal relations. He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1996. Dr. Sivaramakrishnan has contributed to significant editorial work, including founding roles with Environment and History and Conservation and Society . He currently edits the Culture, Place and Nature series at the University of Washington Press and co-edits the Global South Asia Series with Anand Yang and Padma Kaimal. His scholarship bridges anthropology, environmental law, and cultural geography, addressing topics like circular migration, nationalism, and state formation. His publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges, exploring themes such as urban ecological governance, conservation policy, and the intersections of law and ecology in India. His recent works include edited volumes on Asian urban ecologies, environmental ethics, and nature conservation in contemporary economies. Dr. Sivaramakrishnan's advisory roles include leading interdisciplinary programs and fostering collaborations between anthropology and environmental studies. His research continues to interrogate the socio-cultural dimensions of environmental change and sustainability in South Asia.
