Paul Stemmer is a Professor at Wayne State University's Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, specifically within the Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Research Focus: Immunosuppression: Investigating the mechanisms of action of immunosuppressive drugs like Cyclosporin-A and Tacrolimus, which inhibit calcineurin phosphatase activity and made organ transplantation possible. Calcineurin Phosphatase Regulation: Studying the integration of five regulatory mechanisms (calmodulin, calcineurin-B, redox state, targeting proteins, and enzyme structure) using site-directed mutagenesis to create novel proteins. Proteomic Analysis: Employing two-dimensional chromatography and mass spectrometry to profile proteomes and examine protein modifications that affect enzyme function.
