Brooke Blevins is the Dean and Professor in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Idaho. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin, alongside degrees from Trinity University. Her research focuses on empowering youth through civic education, action civics, and humanizing pedagogy. Dr. Blevins co-directs the iEngage Summer Civics Institute, an innovative program using digital technologies to enhance civic engagement. She has secured over $285,000 in grants and received prestigious awards like the Sandra Day O’Connor Award (2022) and the Texas NAME Outstanding Researcher Award (2022). Her academic background includes teaching high school in Texas before transitioning to higher education. She teaches courses in secondary education, social studies, and multicultural education. Dr. Blevins has chaired over 30 doctoral dissertations and published extensively with students. She holds editorial roles in journals like Theory and Research in Social Education and leadership positions in professional associations such as the National Council for the Social Studies and AERA. Research interests include critical historical inquiry, teacher preparation, and equity in education. Her work emphasizes bridging theory and practice, particularly in fostering civic competence and advocacy among students. The iEngage program, rooted in action civics, demonstrates her commitment to community-centered education and civic agency development.
