Prof. Dr. Chih-Jen Shih is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on nanomaterial surfaces and interfaces , with applications in semiconductor superlattices , electroluminescent devices , and heterogeneous integration . Contact: chih-jen.shih@chem.ethz.ch Education : B.Sc./M.Sc. in Engineering, National Taiwan University Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, MIT (2014) Postdoctoral Researcher, Stanford University (2014-2015) Research Interests include nanomaterials engineering , quantum dot LEDs , and 2D material processing . His group develops innovative strategies for band structure engineering and stabilization of perovskites , while pioneering hydrogel-based strain-free fabrication for scalable 2D systems. Scientific Awards include the SNSF Consolidator Grant (2024) , MIT Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award (2013) , and multiple fellowships from MIT and Taiwan. His work has been published in Nature Communications , Advanced Materials , and Angewandte Chemie . Advising includes doctoral students like Gianluca Vagli , Steve , and Tommaso Marcato . Former advisee Tian Tian recently joined the University of Alberta as a tenure-track assistant professor.
