Prof. Dr. Chih-Jen Shih is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on nanomaterial surfaces and interfaces, with applications in semiconductor superlattices, electroluminescent devices, and heterogeneous integration. Research Interests include nanomaterials engineering, quantum dot LEDs, and 2D material processing. His group develops innovative strategies for band structure engineering and stabilization of perovskites, while pioneering hydrogel-based strain-free fabrication for scalable 2D systems.
Scientific Awards include the SNSF Consolidator Grant (2024), MIT Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award (2013), and multiple fellowships from MIT and Taiwan. His work has been published in Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and Angewandte Chemie.
Advising includes doctoral students like Gianluca Vagli, Steve, and Tommaso Marcato. Former advisee Tian Tian recently joined the University of Alberta as a tenure-track assistant professor.
