Professor Jesper Bøje Andersen is a Professor in Translational Hepatology at the University of Copenhagen, based at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. He leads the Andersen Group, which focuses on utilizing genome-wide approaches to model disease causality and develop diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic strategies for hepatobiliary cancers. Education: PhD in Translational Genomics and Epigenomics from Aarhus University, Denmark (2006) Joint research fellowship at University of Maryland, Department of Medicine, Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, Baltimore, USA (2003-2007) Professor Andersen's research centers on three main themes: Immunogenomics, metabolism, and epigenomic remodeling in the context of hepatobiliary cancers. His work aims to significantly guide novel treatment modalities and impact clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. The Andersen Group employs cutting-edge technologies including single-cell genomics, tumor heterogeneity analysis, and cross-species integrative omics approaches to understand liver and bile duct cancers at a molecular level. Analysis of Professor Andersen's recent publications reveals a strong focus on cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, with research spanning from basic molecular mechanisms to clinical applications. His work increasingly integrates genomic, epigenomic, and immunological approaches to develop precision medicine strategies for liver cancers. Notably, his team has been advancing understanding of tumor heterogeneity, molecular subtypes, and potential therapeutic targets in biliary tract cancers. Scientific Awards: Danish Cancer Society Research Scholarship (2002) AFAR Junior Investigator Award (2007) ISICR Young Investigator Award (2007) Danish Medical Research Council Award (2008) EASL Young Investigator Award (2008) ILCA Investigator Award (2010) Danish Cancer Society "Knæk Cancer" Talented Young Investigator (2014) Novo Nordisk Foundation Hallas-Møller Fellowship (2015) Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Leader Program (2022) Professor Andersen is an active mentor and advisor, having founded and directed BRIC's Postdoc Career Program. He has secured numerous competitive grants from Danish and European funding agencies, including the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Sheila Sherlock fellowship and multiple Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowships. His research has been supported by prestigious organizations including the Independent Research Fund Denmark, Danish Cancer Society, and Novo Nordisk Foundation. The Andersen Group operates within the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) at the University of Copenhagen. Professor Andersen has co-founded several international collaborations including the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma (ENSCCA), Global Cholangiocarcinoma Alliance, and Precision-BTC network. He serves as an active participant in the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation USA and member of the International Cholangiocarcinoma Research Network, demonstrating his leadership in creating global research networks focused on rare liver cancers.
