Associate Professor
Dr. Henry Abanda is a Reader in Construction Informatics at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics/Physics, Dipl. Ing. in Civil Engineering, MA in Monitoring & Evaluation, and HDR in Digital Construction Technology. His academic journey includes institutions in Cameroon, France, Kenya, and the UK. Abanda’s research focuses on Building Information Modelling (BIM) , Semantic Web , Artificial Intelligence , and Climate Change Mitigation . He leads the Smart Construction and Impact Assessment (SC&IA) group and advises BIM Africa , an initiative promoting digital technologies in construction across Africa. His work spans 5 continents, emphasizing sustainable development and emerging markets. He has authored/co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, 39 conference papers, and contributed to international reports on BIM and renewable energy. Notable projects include ISO 19650 implementation frameworks, BIM applications in post-conflict reconstruction (e.g., Mosul), and digital twins for lifecycle management. His teaching spans MSc programs in BIM, Construction Project Management, and Sustainable Development. Abanda’s professional memberships include Fellow of the UK Advance HE Academy, Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5th Mitigation Report. He has delivered keynote addresses on smart cities, BIM integration in Africa, and sustainable energy systems.
