Associate Professor
Matthieu Baudelet is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Central Florida with a secondary joint appointment in Anthropology. He holds affiliations with the National Center for Forensic Science (NCFS) and the Townes Laser Institute. His research focuses on laser-based spectroscopic techniques for forensic and biomedical applications. Education: B.Sc. in Physics (University of Lille, 2003), M.Sc. in Laser and Spectroscopy (University of Lyon, 2005), Ph.D. in Laser-Induced Plasma and Spectroscopic Analysis (LASIM, Lyon). Research: Develops multimodal analytical methods for forensic anthropology (pollen, tire marks, skeletal remains) and matrix-matched standards for biomaterials. Specializes in LIBS, Raman spectroscopy, and LA-ICP-MS for quantitative analysis in medical diagnostics and forensic decision-making. Current work includes stand-off detection systems and atmospheric laser propagation. Recent Publications: Focus on elemental profiling of biological evidence (2018-2025), with innovations in forensic anthropology evidence processing. Articles demonstrate consistent themes in spectroscopic method development, commingled remains analysis, and instrumentation optimization. Advising & Labs: Mentors graduate students in interdisciplinary forensic research at NCFS laboratories, collaborating with biomedical and forensic communities to bridge analytical gaps.
