About
Dr. Jeffrey M. Osborn is a Professor of Biology in the School of Science at The College of New Jersey. His research program integrates botany, palynology, and biomechanics to investigate plant reproduction strategies, particularly pollen morphology and aerodynamics in both extant and fossil species.
Research focuses on structural and functional adaptations in pollen grains, including aerodynamic properties of saccate pollen and developmental processes in basal angiosperms like Victoria water lilies. Collaborative projects with engineering colleagues examine pollen flight physics using mathematical modeling and experimental approaches.
Dr. Osborn mentors undergraduate researchers in projects ranging from fossil pollen ultrastructure to biomechanical modeling. His NSF-funded work has advanced understanding of wind pollination adaptations and contributed to paleobotanical classification systems.
