Professor
Dorota Elżbieta Filar is a Professor at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), holding position in the Department of Semantics, Pragmatics and Language Theory within the Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. With habilitated doctorate status (dr hab.), she maintains active academic engagement including scheduled consultations through 2025. Her scholarly work spans linguistic worldview, cognitive linguistics, and narrative semantics, with significant contributions to understanding conceptual structures in language. Her research interests focus on cultural and cognitive linguistics, linguistic communication, and marketing communication. She investigates semantic aspects including linguistic worldview, conceptual schemas, artistic text semantics, and narrative structures as semantic categories. Her work bridges linguistic analysis with interdisciplinary perspectives on conceptual structures underlying language, particularly examining how narrative frameworks shape linguistic representation of reality. Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent focus on embodiment in language, spatial cognition, and narrative structures within semantic frameworks. Her work demonstrates evolution from broader linguistic worldview studies toward more specific investigations of somatization, spatial categorization, and cognitive equivalence. The publications show strong interdisciplinary connections between linguistics, cognitive science, and cultural studies, with particular attention to Polish language phenomena. Professor Filar has successfully led multiple research projects including the current project "Pamięć - język - państwo" (February 2024) funded by the National Program for the Development of Humanities, the completed educational project "LOGI.KOM," and participation in KBN and NPRH grants. She has supervised doctoral students including Małgorzata Słowik (completed) and Małgorzata Garnek (ongoing), while serving in various academic committees including doctoral scholarship committees and recruitment commissions. Her academic service includes membership in scientific societies (PTJ, TMJP, LTN), editorial board membership for the "Slavica" series at IS PAN, and review work for numerous linguistic journals. She has organized academic conferences including the "Światy za słowami" series and contributed to curriculum development for Polish Philology studies with specializations in Business and Official Communication and Media and Copywriting.
