Assistant Professor
Lok Pokhrel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine and holds a joint appointment in Health Education and Promotion. He directs the Pokhrel's Nanotechnology and Health Lab (PNHL) where his research focuses on sustainable nanotechnology development and environmental health safety. Pokhrel's research program has two primary thrusts: developing nanotechnology-based solutions to public health challenges including Zika virus control, antimicrobial resistance, and water purification; and investigating environmental health and safety implications of engineered nanomaterials. His lab employs advanced techniques including electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopy. With over 25 years of teaching experience and 10 years of research expertise, Pokhrel has received several awards for his work and serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals. His research addresses critical global challenges including water quality, microbial resistance, and sustainable agriculture.
