Dr. Tural Aliyev is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), part of the ETH domain, and an associated researcher at the Governance of the Environment and Territorial Development (GEDT) group at the University of Geneva. His work bridges environmental science and urban planning, with a focus on the Policy Analysis and Environmental Governance (PEGO) group at Eawag, which connects Eawag with the University of Bern. Dr. Aliyev actively contributes to the GreenCityNet project, which aims to establish social-ecological networks that enhance biodiversity within urban green areas. His work explores how cultural backgrounds influence preferences in urban green spaces, the relationship between urban parks and mental/physical well-being, and the implementation of nature-based solutions in cities. His research spans Europe, Switzerland, and the Caucasus region, with special attention to Baku, Azerbaijan and other post-Soviet urban contexts. His scholarly contributions include numerous publications analyzing urban transformation in Baku and Tehran, waterfront urban areas, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable retrofitting of industrial territories. His research demonstrates a consistent focus on integrating environmental considerations into urban planning, particularly in transitional contexts where cities face complex challenges related to sustainability and resilience.
