Francesco Giacosa is a Full Professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Poland, where he serves as Head of the High Energy Physics department and Director of the Doctoral School. He also holds a position as Privatdozent at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His academic career spans over two decades with significant contributions to hadron physics and quantum mechanics. Professor Giacosa completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at the University of Turin (1995-2001), where he wrote his Diploma Thesis on "Chiral phase transitions in the NJL model" under Prof. Dr. Wanda Alberico. He earned his PhD in Physics from Tuebingen University, Germany (2001-2005) with a thesis titled "Glueball phenomenology within a nonlocal approach," supervised by Prof. Dr. Amand Faessler and Prof. Dr. Thomas Gutsche. In 2013, he completed his Habilitation with the work "An effective chiral model of QCD with vector mesons, dilaton and tetraquark: physics in the vacuum and at nonzero temperature and density." Professor Giacosa's research focuses on hadron physics in vacuum and medium, with particular emphasis on glueball phenomenology and the Extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM). He investigates chiral symmetry and its restoration at nonzero temperature and density, meson and baryon spectroscopy, and the role of tetraquarks in QCD. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with experimental observations, contributing to our understanding of non-perturbative aspects of Quantum Chromodynamics. He has made significant contributions to understanding the nature of scalar mesons, glueballs, and the connection between QCD symmetries and hadronic observables. Analysis of Professor Giacosa's recent publications reveals a strong focus on hadron phenomenology within effective QCD models. His work spans from fundamental studies of chiral symmetry to applications in medium conditions. Key themes include glueball properties, meson decays, chiral phase transitions, and the role of tetraquarks. His research demonstrates a consistent approach using the Extended Linear Sigma Model to address diverse phenomena in strong interaction physics, with particular attention to non-perturbative aspects that are difficult to access through lattice QCD or perturbative methods. Professor Giacosa was awarded the MainCampus Educator fellowship (2012-2013) by the Foundation Polytechnical Society in Frankfurt am Main, recognizing his contributions to academic education and research mentorship. Professor Giacosa has supervised four completed PhD theses as first supervisor and one as second supervisor, with three ongoing PhD projects. He has secured multiple research grants, including two NCN OPUS projects (2015-2018 and 2020-2024) and NAWA ULAM program agreements (2019-2023), supporting postdoctoral researchers and graduate students in hadron physics research. His mentoring approach emphasizes both theoretical rigor and connection to experimental results. Professor Giacosa leads the Hadron group at UJK Kielce, which focuses on hadron physics in vacuum and medium. Previously, he was active in the Chiral group at Goethe University Frankfurt, which investigated modern topics in hadron physics, including spectroscopy and phenomenology of mesons and baryons, chiral partners, spontaneous symmetry breaking and its restoration in thermal and dense medium. The group regularly organized meetings to discuss research topics and published numerous collaborative papers.
