Assistant Professor
Linn Gillberg is an Assistant Professor at Xlab, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH). Xlab is part of the Center for Healthy Aging. She has been in her current position since 2023, following her postdoctoral work at the same institution. Dr. Gillberg's educational background includes a PhD in Epigenetics and Diabetes from the University of Copenhagen (2015) and an MSc in Human Biology from the same institution (2010). As a translational researcher, Gillberg specializes in epigenetic, transcriptional, and mitochondrial changes in diseases such as type 2 diabetes, leukemia, and breast cancer. Her current research focuses on how chemotherapy and radiation therapy affect metabolic health and diabetes risk in breast cancer patients. She aims to elucidate how epigenetic mechanisms interact with the genome and lifestyle/medical exposures in the progression of complex age-related diseases. Her work spans disciplines including epigenetics, metabolism, oncology, and mitochondrial biology, with specific interests in breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, hematological cancers, diet/lifestyle effects, and fetal development. Her recent publication trends show a strong focus on the intersection of cancer treatment (particularly breast cancer) and metabolic health, with significant work on epigenetic mechanisms in both solid tumors and hematological malignancies. She also investigates how therapeutic interventions affect mitochondrial function and inflammatory responses.
