Professor
Dr. Shahriar Afkhami is Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in Mathematical Sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology, with a joint appointment in Data Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto (2007) and completed postdoctoral training at Virginia Tech. His research expertise includes: Computational modeling of interfacial phenomena Dynamics of complex fluids and soft matter Nanoscale fluid behavior and wetting Magnetic fluid dynamics and applications High-performance numerical methods Dr. Afkhami's publications focus on fundamental aspects of fluid behavior at interfaces and small scales. Recent work examines dynamic contact angles, viscoelastic flow instabilities, magnetic nanoparticle transport for drug delivery, and numerical challenges in wetting phenomena. His research combines advanced numerical techniques with physical insights to address problems in fluid dynamics and interfacial science. He has held visiting positions at Brown University, Institut Jean le Rond d'Alembert (Paris), and Virginia Tech. Dr. Afkhami serves as affiliate faculty with NJIT's Institute for Data Science and Center for AI Research. No scientific awards or student information is provided.
