Associate Professor
Lu Shi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences within the College of Health Professions at Pace University, New York City. He holds a PhD in Policy Analysis from the RAND Graduate School, an MA in Mass Communication from Syracuse University, and a BS in English Linguistics from Peking University. Dr. Shi completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles, and previously held a tenure-track position at Clemson University. His research spans multiple domains in public health, including complementary medicine, telehealth, mobile health, health disparities, mindfulness, mental and cognitive health, digital health, and applied artificial intelligence . He has led and co-led numerous federally and foundation-funded research projects, including grants from the National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. Dr. Shi has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His recent publications focus on telehealth disparities during the pandemic, mindfulness interventions for anxiety and cognitive health, machine learning applications in predicting cardiovascular outcomes, and policy evaluations in public health. His work frequently employs advanced methodologies such as causal inference, simulation modeling, and meta-analysis. His scientific contributions include research on: Medicaid expansion and lung cancer care inequities Mindfulness meditation and cognitive aging Telehealth utilization and urban-rural disparities Machine learning in Alzheimer’s disease disparities Robotic surgery outcomes in China Stress reduction in prediabetes and stroke patients Dr. Shi is actively involved in mentoring undergraduate research through the Provost's Student-Faculty Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Award Program. He teaches courses such as HSC 305: Introduction to Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice and PH 602: Social and Behavioral Determinants of Health. He is a member of professional organizations including ISPOR and the American Heart Association. His research lab at Pace University engages in clinical innovation, mindfulness studies, and health equity research, often involving student participation.
