Teaching Professor
Gordon Nicholson is a Teaching Professor in Foundation Studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2016. He holds an M.Arch. in History and Theory from McGill University, an M.Arch. in Urban Design from the University of Oklahoma, and a B.Arch. from the University of Tennessee. His professional career includes roles as a Partner at Guess Nicholson Architecture (2003–2015) and a sole practitioner under Gordon A. Nicholson Architect, LLC. Nicholson’s research interests span architecture, urban design, and sustainable residential design. He has been recognized for innovative projects like the reverse T house (AIA SC Merit Award, 2008) and Nautilus residence (AIA National Small Project Award, 2008). His work emphasizes ethical considerations in design, coastal adaptation, and historical preservation. His articles and presentations address topics such as climate resilience, small-scale housing, and Charleston’s architectural heritage. He is affiliated with organizations like the American Institute of Architects and the United States Green Building Council.
