Research Fellow
Dr. Navid Freidoonimehr is a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering and the Centre for Biomedical Technologies. Holding a PhD from the University of Adelaide, his work bridges biofluid mechanics , cardiovascular diagnostics , and energy-efficient fluid systems . Education: PhD (University of Adelaide) Professional Memberships: Australian Fluid Mechanics Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Engineers Australia, European Society of Biomechanics His research focuses on coronary artery disease and microvascular dysfunction , combining experimental fluid mechanics with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze blood flow patterns, stent performance, and novel diagnostic indices. Notable projects include developing a CFD-based resistance index for microvascular spasm (2024-2025) and exploring flow pulsation energy savings in pipelines under his 2025 ARC DECRA grant. Recent publications highlight his expertise in hemodynamic modeling , turbulent boundary layers , and biofluid-structure interactions . Awards include the Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship and Vanguard Grant . He actively supervises PhD students in collaboration with leading researchers like Professor Zhiyong Li.
