Nazan Altun is a Research Fellow at University College Dublin's School of Biosystems and Food Engineering. She holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Oviedo. Her research focuses on spectral imaging, nanomaterials, and regulatory compliance in pharmaceuticals/food safety sectors. She has extensive experience managing grants and fostering academic-industry collaborations through EU-funded programs like Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN. Currently investigates micro/nanoplastics' health impacts aligned with EU strategies. Education: BSc Chemical Engineering, Ege University (Turkey) MSc Analytical Chemistry, University of Bologna (Italy) PhD Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Oviedo (Spain) Research Interests: Spectral imaging, NIR spectroscopy, chemometrics applications in chemical/biological systems, and regulatory innovation frameworks. She actively contributes to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) initiatives at UCD. Teaching includes guest lectures on scientific writing, MATLAB-based chemometrics, and microplastic analysis workshops. Her work bridges research, policy, and industry to advance sustainable solutions.
