Prof. Dr. Muhittin Hakan DEMİR serves as Professor and Vice Dean at Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Business, Department of Logistics Management. He has been with the university since 2008, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor in 2016 and to full Professor in 2021. He previously served as Department Head from 2009-2013 and remains an active Faculty Board Member. His educational background includes: PhD in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University (2001) MS in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University (1994) BS in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University (1992) Prof. DEMİR's research focuses on logistics and supply chain management with specialized expertise in facility location, energy logistics, urban logistics, and disaster management logistics. His work bridges theoretical operations research with practical applications addressing sustainable and humanitarian challenges in Turkish and international contexts. His current research emphasizes the intersection of logistics with energy transition, climate adaptation, and refugee assistance programs. His publication record shows a clear evolution from technical optimization approaches toward integrated solutions incorporating behavioral insights and sustainability considerations. Recent work demonstrates strong focus on energy transition logistics, sustainable urban development, and humanitarian applications of supply chain principles, particularly for refugee populations. Scientific recognition includes: IIE Transactions Best Paper Award (2004-2005) for his work on facility location problems Prof. DEMİR has supervised multiple master's theses on logistics optimization and has secured significant research funding including multiple EU Horizon 2020 projects and TUBITAK grants. His projects address diverse challenges from urban waste management to energy security frameworks and refugee logistics systems. He actively contributes as Scientific Working Group Member for the Ministry of Transportation's 11th Transportation Congress. His leadership extends to directing research teams working on sustainable logistics solutions for municipalities and energy transition projects across Europe. His current research agenda focuses on integrating behavioral insights with operational optimization to create more effective and sustainable logistics systems that address both commercial and societal challenges.
