Terry Mizrahi, Ph.D., MSW served as a Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College (CUNY) from 1980 to 2019. She specialized in community organizing, social policy, and health policy. Her roles included chairing the Community Organization, Planning and Development practice method, co-founding the Education Center for Community Organizing (ECCO), and co-chairing the National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign. She earned her BA in Sociology from NYU, MSW from Columbia University, and PhD in Sociology from the University of Virginia. Research & Leadership: Mizrahi’s work spans professional socialization, coalition-building, and gender dynamics in organizing. She co-edited the Encyclopedia of Macro Social Work (2023) and pioneered studies on physician training. Her advocacy includes co-chairing the Special Commission to Advance Macro Social Work and leading NASW as its national president (2000–2003). She represented NASW as a Health Care Policy Fellow at HHS and advanced universal health coverage through Metro NY Health Care for All. Received CSWE’s Lifetime Career Award (2019) and multiple presidential awards from Hunter College. Honored with ACOSA’s Career Achievement Award and induction into Columbia’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Grants & Advising: Secured a Fulbright Fellowship (2006) in Israel, training professionals there. Advised on longitudinal physician career studies and interprofessional collaboration. Supervised 70+ articles, book chapters, and manuals on health policy and social work practice. Labs/Teams: Founded ECCO (1982–2006) and continues leadership roles in macro social work initiatives like Voting is Social Work (www.votingissocialwork.org).
