Dr. Jean Cote is a Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen's University, serving as its Director from 2006-2019. He holds cross appointments as a visiting professor at the University of Queensland (Australia) and University of Gloucestershire (UK). His research focuses on youth sport development, coaching effectiveness, and the psychosocial factors influencing sport participation and excellence. He has secured six consecutive SSHRC grants since 1999, focusing on transformative coaching practices and youth development. Education: PhD (U Ottawa), MSc (U Montreal), BSc (U Ottawa). Awards include Queen's Excellence in Graduate Supervision (2012) and Singapore's EW Barker Professorship (2009). He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and 50 book chapters, specializing in talent development, relative age effects, and parent-coach dynamics. Active globally as a research advisor for organizations like IOC, UNESCO, and NBA. Research emphasizes the interplay between youth, coaches, and families in fostering athlete development. Key projects include the Transformational Coaching workshop and the 1616 story-based PYD program. He has edited major journals including International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology (2008-2011). Leadership contributions include advising 60+ international bodies, delivering 60 keynote addresses, and establishing collaborative networks across 12+ countries. Current work explores moral behavior in sport, pandemic impacts on youth participation, and inclusive coaching practices.
