Assistant Professor
Pengfei Su is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, Merced , leading the HPCSA Group . His research focuses on programming languages, program analysis, high-performance/parallel computing, ML systems, and software engineering, with applications in optimizing software inefficiencies through advanced profiling and analysis tools. PhD from William & Mary (2021) MS from Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2016) BE from Yunnan University (2013) His research interests span: Programming Languages and Compiler Design Static and Dynamic Program Analysis High-performance/Parallel Computing ML Systems and Software Engineering Recent publications and grants highlight his work in performance tracing , memory optimization , and AI accelerator selection . Notably, his group received an NSF grant (2025) and developed tools like pprof++ for Go profiling. Scientific awards include: NSF CAREER Award (2025) Hellman Fellows Award (2024) Best Paper Award at PPoPP (2019) He actively mentors students in PhD research (Dinghong Song, Haide He, Xingjian Ding) and undergraduate research (Jayden John), with past advisees including Mao Lin (now at Uber) and Tahea Hossain.
