Peter Imort is a Professor and Head of the Music Department at the Ludwigsburg University of Education, where he has been teaching since 2003. He holds consultation hours on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. and serves in various administrative roles including as a member of the University Council and the Master's Program in Cultural Studies and Cultural Management. Imort studied school music, church music and musicology in Cologne and Hamburg, completing his doctorate in musicology on organizational processes of musical culture in the 16th century. Prior to his position at Ludwigsburg, he completed teacher training at grammar schools and taught at the University of Kassel in the field of music education/music didactics. His primary research interests focus on cultural studies-oriented music research, music and media education, and contemporary music in teaching. Imort has developed interdisciplinary approaches connecting music with media education, particularly examining how historical and contemporary music scenes can be reconstructed and taught. His work often explores the intersection of popular culture, film music, and educational practices, with significant attention to hip-hop culture, film soundtracks, and historical music reconstruction across different cultural contexts. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on applying music education in diverse contexts, from elementary school settings to teacher training programs. His work demonstrates a strong interest in how media and technology influence music education, with particular attention to film music, animation production, and digital media. The geographic scope of his research spans multiple cultural contexts including Venice (1610), Paris (1843), New York (1956), and contemporary German educational settings. Throughout his career, Imort has held significant leadership positions including Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the State Music Department at the University of Education BW (2004-2014), Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Center for Media Education and Media Research (2005-2019), and 1st and 2nd speaker of the Conference on Music Education at Universities (KMpWH) (2009-2017). Since 2014, he has served as Deputy Chairman of the Association of Friends of the Ludwigsburg University of Education.
