Professor
Yenal Akgün is a Full Professor at the Department of Architecture, Dokuz Eylül University. He holds a BSc from Istanbul Technical University, an MSc from İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), and a Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart. His academic career includes roles as an Associate Professor at Yaşar University and a part-time lecturer. His research focuses on kinetic architecture, adaptive systems, deployable structures, and sustainable design integration. He has contributed to national and international workshops and serves as a reviewer for TÜBİTAK projects. Key research interests include scissor linkages, structural mechanisms, and disaster management planning. His work bridges architectural innovation with engineering principles, emphasizing sustainable development goals in education and design practices. He has advised 14 theses and participated in numerous architectural competitions, winning awards. His recent projects explore kinetic façade systems, deployable umbrellas, and online learning methodologies in architectural education. Awarded the Associate Professor title by YOK in 2017, he has also worked as an architect in municipal urban design and taught at multiple institutions. His contributions span academic leadership, practical design projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
