Associate Professor
Dr. Emma Long is an Associate Professor in American History and Politics at the School of Politics, Philosophy and Area Studies, University of East Anglia. She holds a PhD in History and an undergraduate degree in American Studies from the University of Kent, with formative academic experience at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Specializes in post-WWII US constitutional and legal history Focuses on First Amendment issues, church-state relations, and gun control Researches evangelical political engagement since the 1940s Her research output spans 14 publications, including 2024 works on reproductive rights, 2023 analyses of Christmas commercialization debates, and foundational studies on post-war evangelical activism. Current supervision interests include US constitutional history and legal studies. AHRC Early Career Leadership Fellowship (2018-2020) Director at The Arthur Miller Institute President of the American Studies Network Active in public engagement , her recent media appearances address Georgia school shootings, Kamala Harris's campaign focus on abortion, and Trump's election interference case implications.
