Senior Lecturer
Dr. Mick Craig is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. He holds a DPhil in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford and has held postdoctoral positions at the NIH (USA) and the University of Exeter. His research focuses on neurophysiological mechanisms underlying neuronal network activity and long-range brain communication, particularly in the context of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Key interests include interneuron function, inhibitory control of oscillations, and hippocampal-cortical circuits. Education: BSc Neuroscience, University of Glasgow (2006) Wellcome Trust DPhil in Neuroscience, University of Oxford (2011) Research Trends: His recent work emphasizes gamma oscillation plasticity and its implications for Alzheimer's biomarkers, sleep-related neural activity disruptions, and circuit disruption in neurodegenerative disorders. Collaborative studies with groups like the NIH and Alzheimer's Research UK highlight translational applications of his findings. Awards: Preprint Award (ASAPBio, 2023) Vandervell Foundation Fellowship (2016–2019) Grants & Advising: Leading projects on thalamic place cells (BBSRC, 2025–2027) Supervised 6 postgraduate students and a research assistant Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary collaborations within the University of Glasgow's neuroscience community, focusing on electrophysiology and optogenetic methods.
