John A. Miller is a Professor in the School of Computing at the University of Georgia, specializing in computational data science, simulation, and machine learning. He holds a PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology (1986) and has been a faculty member since 1986, progressing from Assistant Professor (1986–1993) to Professor (2000–present). His research focuses on web-based simulation, workflow management, bioinformatics, and pandemic forecasting using AI and deep learning. Education: PhD in Computer Science (Georgia Tech, 1986), MS (Georgia Tech, 1982), BS in Applied Mathematics (Northwestern University, 1980). Research interests include: (i) Modeling & Simulation, (ii) Web Services/Workflow, (iii) Big Data Analytics, (iv) Database Systems, and (v) Bioinformatics. Notable projects include NSF-funded work on pandemic prediction using foundation models and AI-driven glycan structure analysis. Recent awards include the 2024 Student Career Success Influencer Award. He has secured over $5M in grants from NSF, Google, and NIH for projects like knowledge-infused learning for time series forecasting and AI for scientific discovery. Labs/Teams: Leads interdisciplinary teams in pandemic modeling, traffic simulation, and healthcare analytics.
