Dr. Jane Healy is a Professor in Criminology at Bournemouth University's Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, where she also serves in the Department of Social Science and Social Work. She joined Bournemouth in 2017 as a Lecturer and served as Deputy Head of Department from 2019-2023. Her educational background includes a PhD on disablist hate crimes from Middlesex University, Master's degrees in Social Science Research Methods and Criminology with Forensic Psychology, an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. Her research explores disability hate crimes, domestic violence, intersectionality in criminology, and restorative justice. Current projects include a British Academy/Leverhulme-funded study on inclusivity at Eurovision, community-based domestic violence initiatives with Yellow Door and Stop Domestic Abuse, and university-funded safeguarding research. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and strong institutions. Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on hate crime victimization, domestic abuse interventions, and methodological innovation using intersectional frameworks across European contexts. Recent outputs demonstrate increased emphasis on COVID-19 impacts and disability rights. As a PhD supervisor and former ASID student chapter advisor, she actively mentors emerging scholars. Grant leadership includes British Academy/Leverhulme funding and university-supported projects examining restorative practices in safeguarding.
