Carl Leonard

Dr. Carl Leonard is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, Australia. With over 30 years of experience bridging school practice and academia, he advocates for public education, inclusivity, and evidence-based approaches to enhance outcomes for all students. His work emphasizes implementation science, universal design for learning (UDL), and teacher wellbeing, aligning academic scholarship with real-world educational challenges.

Recent studies (2023–2025) explore self-regulation programs, sensory processing challenges, and UDL implementation in higher education.

He supervises 11 active PhD/Masters candidates and has completed 2 supervisions, covering topics like neurodiversity, autism, and middle leadership. Grants include funding from the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (2023) and Queensland Department of Education (2022) for sensory processing guidelines.
