Jukka Veikko Mäkinen is a Professor of Business Ethics at the Department of Marketing and Communication at the Estonian Business School (EBS). He holds a PhD from the Helsinki School of Economics (2004) and a degree in Business Ethics from Aalto University (2014). His teaching focuses on business ethics, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, argumentation, and philosophy. Since 2019, he has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University. His research explores intersections of business ethics with political theory, globalization, and sustainability. Key areas include stakeholder engagement, corporate responsibility in democratic systems, and ethical frameworks for Big Tech regulation. His work has been published in journals like Business Ethics Quarterly and Journal of Global Ethics , and he has co-edited books on globalization and CSR. Mäkinen’s recent publications emphasize contextual approaches to business education, democratic accountability of corporations, and the ethical dimensions of disaster governance. His work often critiques the moral labor division between corporations and governments, particularly in global crises. He has advised on CSR strategies in multinational contexts and contributed to policy debates on financial ethics and regulatory frameworks for tech companies.
