Emma Schymanski is a Full Professor of Environmental Cheminformatics and Deputy Director of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg. She holds a dual background in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering from the University of Western Australia (2003), followed by a PhD in Environmental Chemistry at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (2011) and postdoctoral work at Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology). Her research focuses on identifying unknown environmental contaminants, particularly PFAS, using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and non-target screening. She is a leading advocate for open science and FAIR data practices, co-developing tools like PubChemLite and the NORMAN Suspect List Exchange (NORMAN-SLE). Key awards include the FNR ATTRACT Fellowship (2018) and recognition in The Analytical Scientist Power List (2018, 2024). Her work bridges environmental chemistry, exposomics, and clinical metabolomics, emphasizing chemical identification and data standardization.
