Senior Lecturer
Dr. Pam McKinney is a Senior Lecturer (part-time) in the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at the University of Sheffield. She holds a PhD in Information Literacy and pedagogical practices. Her roles include Deputy Programme Coordinator for the MA Librarianship, Deputy Director of Learning and Teaching, and Chair of the Information School Student-Staff Committee. Her research focuses on Information Literacy, particularly its integration with Inquiry-based Learning, collaborative learning, reflective practices, and health-related information behaviors. Education: BA (Sheffield), MSc (Sheffield), MCLIP, PhD (Sheffield). She has extensive experience in academic librarianship and educational development, including work with the Centre for Inquiry-based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences (CILASS). Research interests include pedagogical strategies for Information Literacy, inquiry-based learning frameworks, group work dynamics, digital collaboration tools, and health-related information practices such as self-tracking via mobile apps. She has led projects like PATHWAY, fostering inquiry-based science education across Europe. Publications span journals like Journal of Information Literacy , Journal of Medical Internet Research , and Education for Information , with a focus on information literacy in academic and everyday contexts. Awards include Teaching Excellence accolades and Vice Chancellor nominations for leadership in teaching. She advises PhD candidates in areas like information literacy and organizational learning. Active in professional bodies (CILIP, Journal of Information Literacy), she also judges LILAC conference awards.
