Carol Linehan is a Professor in the School of Applied Psychology at University College Cork (UCC), where she has held leadership roles including Head of School (2020–2023). Her research focuses on occupational psychology, gender and identity in organizations, emotional labor, work flexibility, and work-home boundaries. She has led major projects like the EU-funded Genovate initiative (2013–2017) promoting gender equality in research and innovation, and the 2023 HEA-funded 'Stronger Together' leadership program. Her work integrates theory and practice, addressing issues such as workplace equity, professional identity, and organizational culture. Education: PhD in Psychology (2000), MSc in Occupational Psychology (1994), BA (1993), all from UCC. She developed the MA in Work and Organisational Psychology, a program accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland. Research interests include gender equality in academia, emotional labor in HR roles, and the impact of work practices on employee identity. She has published extensively in journals like Human Relations , Gender, Work & Organization , and Management Communication Quarterly . Awards include the 2017 UCC Research Team of the Year and best paper awards from the Irish and British Academies of Management (2013). She advises on gender equality initiatives, sits on professional committees, and collaborates with international teams in the EU and beyond. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs in applied psychology and HR management. Recent students supervised include Dr. Julia Sylvia Dempsey (2021) and Dr. Olive Fives (2022). She actively engages with industry and public discourse on workplace psychology and gender issues.
