Associate Professor
Mohsen Khalily is an Associate Professor in Antennas and Propagation at the University of Surrey's Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) within the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. He leads the Surface Electromagnetics Laboratory (SEMLAB) and has secured over £4.5M in research grants. His work focuses on surface electromagnetics, metasurfaces, THz communication, and RIS standardization within ETSI. Education & Research: Holds senior IEEE membership and fellowships in Higher Education. Research spans metasurface engineering, RIS applications, and antenna design for 5G/6G. Notable contributions include reconfigurable intelligent surfaces for ISAC and THz on-chip communication using topological insulators. Publications & Impact: Authored 250+ papers and 4 book chapters. Key areas include holographic beamforming, wave-domain computing, and OAM multiplexing. Recent work explores STAR-RIS for sensing/communication coexistence and quantum optimization of metasurfaces. Grants & Collaborations: Led projects like PREMIER (£750k), RIS-Enabled ISAC (£450k), and Flexi-DAS (£1.2M). Collaborates with global experts like Prof. Ahmed Kishk (Concordia) and Prof. Zhi Ning Chen (NUS).
