Bryan W. Brooks is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University's College of Arts & Sciences, where he also serves as Director of the Environmental Health Science Program. He is Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Science & Technology Letters and leads high-impact research in environmental toxicology, water reuse, and public health. Ph.D. in Environmental Science, University of North Texas M.S. in Biological Sciences, University of Mississippi B.S. in Biological Sciences, University of Mississippi Dr. Brooks' research focuses on anthropogenic stressors in urbanizing watersheds, particularly effluent-dominated streams, contaminants of emerging concern (e.g., pharmaceuticals, microplastics), harmful algal blooms, and sustainable molecular design. His transdisciplinary work integrates field and laboratory studies in aquatic toxicology, environmental chemistry, and risk assessment to inform science-based policy and stewardship. His recent publications reflect a strong trend toward global environmental health, sustainability, and innovative risk assessment frameworks. Themes include pharmaceutical pollution, green chemistry, water reuse under climate change, and workforce development in environmental health. His research spans five continents, emphasizing international collaboration and horizon scanning for emerging contaminants. Dr. Brooks has received numerous honors, including: Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow, Royal Society of Chemistry Fellow, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Recipharm International Environmental Award Leadership Award, Water Environment Federation Presidential Citations from SETAC Fulbright Visiting Research Chair Editorial leadership roles in Environmental Management , Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry , and others He actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom have secured prestigious fellowships (e.g., EPA STAR, Fulbright, Knauss Fellowship) and awards. His research is funded by NIH, NSF, CDC, EPA, USDA, and other agencies. He leads the CDC-funded UNCOVER-EH initiative and the Global Horizon Scanning Project to identify priority research questions for sustainable environmental quality. Dr. Brooks is affiliated with multiple labs and research teams focused on environmental health, toxicology, and water sustainability at Baylor University and through international partnerships, including institutions in New Zealand, China, and the Czech Republic.
