Professor
Professor Kate Wilmut is a Professor of Psychology at Oxford Brookes University, co-director of the Centre for Psychological Research, and Postgraduate Tutor for Research Students. Her academic roles include steering research strategy, building research capacity, and overseeing postgraduate supervision. She teaches modules on Perception and Action, Motor Skill and Play, Developmental Disorders, and research project supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research focuses on human motor control and Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), with particular attention to movement across the lifespan, neurodevelopmental underpinnings of DCD/ADHD, and the role of play in physical activity. She leads the Perception and Motion Analysis (PuMA) lab and has secured significant grants including from the Leverhulme Trust and ESRC, totaling over £500,000. Her work spans experimental studies on motor planning, gait analysis, and lived experiences of individuals with DCD, with recent emphasis on psychological well-being and nostalgia in neurodivergent populations.
