Associate Professor
Argyris Arnellos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering at the University of the Aegean, Greece, and Director of the Complex Systems & Service Design Lab. He is an external member of the IAS-Research Group for Life, Mind and Society at the University of the Basque Country, Spain. His research focuses on complex systems theory, philosophy of biology, theoretical biology, and design theory, with emphasis on bio-cognitive complexity and agency evolution. Education: PhD in Complex Systems Design (2008), University of the Aegean MSc in Data Communication Systems (2000), Brunel University, UK BSc in Electronic Engineering (1998), Technological Educational University of Athens Research Interests: His interdisciplinary work integrates complex systems theory, philosophy of biology, and design theory to explore the evolution of bio-cognitive complexity. Key areas include: Autonomy and agency in biological systems Emergence of meaning in design processes Embodied cognition and interaction Philosophical foundations of aesthetics and design Recognition: Recipient of prestigious fellowships including: Marie Curie Individual Fellowship Konrad Lorentz Institute Fellowship Ramon y Cajal Research Professorship Grants & Labs: Leads the Complex Systems & Service Design Lab and has secured funding through international fellowships. His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in complex system design.
