Tom W Nesser is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport at Indiana State University's College of Health and Human Services. He served as Department Chair from May 2017 to July 2023. Nesser holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota (2000), an M.A. in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1995), and a B.A. in Sports Science from St. Olaf College (1993). His research focuses on core stability, athletic performance metrics, strength and conditioning, and biomechanical analysis of运动 techniques. He has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in journals like the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Nesser has received awards including the College of Health and Human Services Research Award (2020) and the Professing Excellence and Inspiring Instruction honor (2023). He actively engages in grants, such as leading the Prac-Ed: Interprofessional Expansion grant (2019) and developing community programs like water-filled weightlifting plate research (2015). His service roles include membership in the Faculty Senate and University Research Committee, and he has presented at conferences like the National Strength and Conditioning Association meetings. His research interests emphasize translating core stability principles into practical training applications, optimizing athletic performance through evidence-based methods, and exploring the intersection of technology in sports science education. Recent work includes revising the Developing the Core textbook (2024) and investigating recovery nutrition strategies. Nesser’s contributions extend to professional development through editorial roles and consulting for organizations like Men’s Health and Shape Magazine.
